Der US-amerikanische Musiker und Songschreiber Pokey LaFarge ist sich seiner Verantwortung bewusst. Er möchte mit seiner Musik Positivität und Liebe verbreiten und das Leben von anderen Menschen damit ein bisschen besser machen.
My music is a gift. I have a responsibility to share that with people. And if I’m gonna share that music with people I have a responsibility to make sure that I’m doing my best to better people’s lives and to create positivity and to create community and inclusion and love and all these different types of things that uplift people as opposed to tear them down.

Direkt traurig oder deprimierend klingen die Songs von LaFarge ja eigentlich bislang auch nicht, aber jetzt gibt’s neben tanzbaren Rhythmen auch eine positive Message. Sein neuer Song „So Long Chicago“ sehnt sich nach Wärme und Sommer.
LaFarge macht sich seit 2006 mit Roots-Songs zwischen Americana, Countryblues und Rockabilly einen Namen. Und er tritt immer passend zur Ära seiner Musik gekleidet auf: mit weit geschnittenen Hosen, Hawaii-Hemd und Haartolle. Und auch wenn er in seinen Songs mit den eigenen Dämonen kämpft, wie auf dem 2020er-Album „Rock bottom rhapsody“, tanzen kann man zu den Stücken immer.
Im Mai erscheint mit „Rhumba Country“ ein neues Album von Pokey LaFarge. Wie der Titel schon andeutet, tobt er sich darauf in den unterschiedlichsten Genres aus. Denn für ihn geht es in seiner Musik vor allem um den Vibe und der ist sonnig und hoffungsvoll.
This record, like so many of my records before, are kind of like mix tapes, compilations of my own songs, because I write in so many different styles. The vibe and the feel I’m trying to create with the title and the feeling that I was getting writing some of the songs was, whether you’re in California or you’re in the Carribean, it’s about sunshine and flowers and beaches. Paradise is the state of mind.
